A Ministry of External Affairs Deputy Secretary was allegedly robbed of his official laptop, diplomatic passport, mobile phones and other valuables after unidentified men broke his car’s window pane in South Delhi’s Aurobindo Marg, said police.
The official, who is a legal officer at MEA, had stopped his car to help a person on the road when the incident took place, said police.
As per a senior police officer, the incident took place around 6.30 pm on Monday. Police said the official told them that he was driving home after work and was near AIIMS hospital when he spotted a man lying unconscious on Aurobindo Marg, towards INA Market. According to police, he parked his car in the corner and rushed to help the man. He then made a PCR call and a van took the man to the hospital. When the official returned to his car, he saw he had allegedly been robbed by unknown persons, said police.
“He was astonished to find his car window’s pane broken and his belongings — official laptop, two mobile phones, diplomatic passport, bank cards, cash (Euros and Rupees) were missing from the car,” said DCP (South) Chandan Chowdhary.
Police said they received a PCR call from the official and police staff reached the spot on the Ring Road, where they met the official.
Senior police officers said they suspect the ‘Thak-Thak’ gang is involved in the incident.
“On his complaint, a case under IPC sections 379 (theft) and 427 (mischief causing damage) was registered. Efforts are on to apprehend the accused,” added the DCP.
Police are looking at CCTVs installed in and around the market and area to identify the accused and ascertain the sequence of events.
